The so-called “Old Cut” summarizes all cut forms that were popular before the invention of the brilliant cut at the beginning of the 20th century. At that time, the brilliants were not circular, and fewer facets were created. These were pointed stones whose octahedral sides were polished.
Since the 20th century, the brilliant cut has been the most popular – bringing out the fire of a diamond. It is subject to a special arrangement of differently shaped facets. On its upper side, it has at least 32 facets and a table, and on its underside, it must carry at least 24 facets throughout its pavilion.
